DIAMESIC 9 - Call for Papers

9th Intersteno Conference on Parliamentary and Other Professional Reporting, Captioning, and Accessibility
Liverpool, United Kingdom – 27-28 July 2026

The field of Diamesic Translation – encompassing all forms of speech capturing, such as court and parliamentary reporting, live captioning, speech-to-text interpreting, and note taking – finds itself at a critical juncture. While GenAI continues to reshape professional workflows, recent academic evidence underscores the irreplaceable value of human expertise in ensuring reliability and accessibility.

In conjunction with the 55th Intersteno Congress, IPRS and the Scientific Committee are pleased to invite researchers, practitioners, technology developers, experts, and enthusiasts to submit proposals for DIAMESIC 9, to be held in Liverpool on 27–28 July 2026. Key topics can include, but should not be limited to the following discussion points:

• AI-in-the-Loop: Addressing the limitations of GenAI in complex scenarios, such as overlapping speech, poor audio quality, and low-resource languages.
• From Pond to Ocean: Exploring the rapid expansion of the speech-to-text market into new institutional, legal, and medical domains.
• Quality Beyond Scores: Measuring success through usability and semantic accuracy, rather than mere statistical proximity.
• Reporting without Frontiers: Theoretical, cognitive, and professional frameworks for multilingual and multimodal transcription and hybrid human-machine interactions.
• Let’s Play Fair: Investigating the environmental footprint of large language models and the algorithmic biases regarding gender, accent, and age.
• New Roles in Reporting: Analysing how increased AI efficiency may paradoxically lead to an increased demand for hyper-specialised professionals.
• Back to basics: Reflecting on foundational workflows, principles, and practices.

• Abstract Length: Approximately 1,000 characters.
• Submission Deadline: April 15, 2026.

Venue information

DIAMESIC-9 sessions will take place on 27th and 28th July 2026, at the Adelphi Hotel (Sefton Room), in Liverpool.
